“Help with HeARTS” Fundraiser for The Gathering Place Throughout the pandemic The Gathering Place had to shift gears to provide relief to its community of members. For the first time since they opened in 1986, The Gathering Place is operating in two locations: their main location at 1535 High Street and a 24/7 auxiliary shelter for women and transgender individuals, which opened in April 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. TGP provides daytime staffing and services to about 100 women and transgender individuals at this auxiliary shelter, which is operated in partnership with Catholic Charities and the City and County of Denver. Growing up in Denver I have always known The Gathering Place to be a special place. TGP and I have some of the same values. Art can serve as a great way to heal, art is therapy! I wanted to create a fundraiser together to assist in helping them during these times where 20% of the proceeds from sales go to this phenomenal community resource. Every HeART purchase will provide hot meals, access to laundry and showers, and support for women, transgender individuals, and children in recovery from homelessness and poverty. Each handmade heart is lovingly created with approximately eight hours of labor Using a flat sheet of gold or silver I hammer hundreds of times over an antler-like shape, and forging the metal to create a one of a kind organic heart (learn more here). I came up with three HeART pendants, the heart symbol encompasses everything from love, compassion, and understanding to being synonymous with affection. My hope is these HeARTS will be worn to represent our compassion for each other during this unpredictable time. Thank you for supporting this project and the community it serves!
